Note to Self: Drink More Water!
/We all know drinking water is good for you. But sometimes it's just so boooooring and tasteless. It can be a real challenge to get more water into your life. In fact my New Year's resolution IS to drink more water. It can really be the single most beneficial health change besides increased activity. We know water is good for us, but we don't always know how to fit it into our lives and make it a healthy habit.
First let's remind ourselves why drinking water is so important.
At the cellular level water is important for daily cells activities and for the cell renewal process.
Water helps maintain the body's fluids. The functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, saliva, transport of nutrients, and maintaining body temperature.
As a cleanser it flushes out our system and helps rid us of daily toxins and waste in our system, thereby improving kidney function and bowel movements. That's why it's a great idea when you start to feel a cold or virus creeping up to increase your fluid intake to flush the pathogens out your system.
As a Diet Aid water has been a strategy for many years. Lots of times when we think we are hungry, we are actually just thirsty. Drinking water while eating helps you to feel fuller faster as the volume in your stomach expands with the aid of water. Drinking while eating also tends to make you eat slower. Eating slower is better because it takes your body up to 20 minutes to know that it is full. Eating foods with higher water content can be filling as well i.e soup, watermelon, oatmeal. And water is a great substitute for calorie rich drinks such as sodas and juices.
As a Beauty Aid, drinking water helps your skin look good. Your skin retains water. When your skin is hydrated, it helps your body stay hydrated. And while you are detoxing your insides, you are also detoxing your outsides.
Now that we are sold on water, how do you start drinking more of it?
Carry water with you everywhere you go. Get a refillable water bottle to cut down on single use water bottles and waste. Go Aquaman!
Find something you like to drink. If you don't like the way water tastes add something to it. I throw a Rooibos Tea bag in my water bottle (even when the water is cold). It still brews and picks up that great Rooibos flavor. We also sell Indalo Infuser Water Bottles. You can add fruit or cucumber or anything to flavor your water. Make it look appetizing and refreshing to yourself, and you will probably drink more of it.
Drink something with every meal and snack you have.
Keep a bottle of water in your desk, car, and bag.
Always remember to drink while exercising or in extreme heat. When you lose more water you need to replace it.
Try starting off your day with one full glass of water.
Indalo™ Rooibos Tea is always a great way to increase your water intake. While you are doing so you will also get an anti-oxidant and rich mineral boost as some of the benefits of the Rooibos tea. If you are looking for a great beverage recipe try the Rooibos Peach Mint Ice Tea. Happy drinking and best of luck on increasing your water intake!
